TINY QUESTERS — Bard
A downloadable asset pack
🎸 Top-Down Pixel Art Bard — Premium Class
A fully-animated top-down support hero built around the lute — 4-directional melee that swings the instrument, four performance loops with music notes baked in, and an EVOLVE cutscene that blows him up into an electrified rock star.
And the rock star ships with him. THE ROCK BARD is a second, separate character set — his own idle in six facings, 4-way walk and two electric performance loops — so the transformation does not end at the cutscene: it hands you a playable second look.
Part of "Tiny Questers — Complete Pixel RPG Asset Pack." Drop-in compatible with the free Warrior and every other class — same feet-center pivot, same 64×64 body, same animation workflow.
🎤 Two characters in one pack — 54 clips · 823 frames. Bard (29) + Rock Bard (14) + an explosion effect in 11 variants.
Animation Set — Bard

- Idle — 5 facings · up (true back view) / left / right, plus two hand-drawn 3/4 diagonal poses (
idle_down_left/idle_down_right) that face the camera — 8 frames each
- Walk — down / up / left / right, 8 frames each

- 🎵 Sing — 4 performance loops, the class's signature:
sing_left/sing_right/sing_up_left/sing_up_right— 24 frames each. The floating music notes are drawn into the frames, so a party-wide buff, a skill cast or a tavern scene needs no extra particle work. All four sides are drawn separately — none is a flipped copy.
- Attack — the lute is the weapon, swung with a slash arc:
- 4-direction swing · left / right (26 frames, 128×96) · down (13) / up (14) on a 128×128 canvas
- No-windup variant (
attack_right_no_ready) — opens mid-strike for combo follow-ups or a haste buff, 14 frames

- Hit — 4-direction reaction with a white-flash frame, 5 frames each

- Die —
die_down_left/die_down_right, 17 frames each — pick the fall direction that matches the hit
- 🏆 Win — victory pose with the lute held up, 16 frames, in both facings

⚡ Evolve — 3 cuts
The bard charges up, bursts, and comes back as the Rock Bard. Two 47-frame cuts (evolve_down_left / evolve_down_right, about 3.5 s) for in-game use, and a 90-frame long version (evolve_down_right_long, about 6.75 s) with more build-up and a trailing playing loop you can hold on. Use them for a class change, an ultimate, a level-up or an awakening scene.
The cutscene ends on the Rock Bard's pose and both characters share the same pivot, so switching the sprite set afterwards is invisible.

🤘 Animation Set — Rock Bard
The evolved form is a full second character folder, not a recolor: his own art, his own electric instrument, his own note effects.
- Idle — 6 facings · left / right (10 frames) · down_left / down_right / up_left / up_right (5 frames) — the diagonals cover both the camera-facing and the away-facing stances

- Walk — down / up / left / right, 8 frames each

- 🎸 Sing — 2 electric performance loops · left / right, 33 frames each on a 128×128 canvas, with their own note effects — the amplified version of the Bard's performance

- ✨ Sing FX — the notes on their own ·
sing_fx_left/sing_fx_right, the same 33 frames with the character lifted out. Same canvas, same alignment, so laying it back oversing_*lands pixel-for-pixel — draw the notes on their own layer, above other sprites, tinted per buff type, or over a different character.
The Rock Bard is the performance form: movement and playing, nothing else. Attack, hit, death and victory stay with the Bard — switch back to his set when a fight starts (same pivot, same grid, so the swap is seamless) and use the evolved look for the buff, travel and cutscene beats it is built for.
💥 Explosion Effect — 11 variants
The burst from the evolve cutscene, pulled out as a standalone 8-frame effect (96×96) and recoloured. Eight hue variants — blue, purple, red, orange, yellow, green, cyan, pink — plus three smoke tones (pale grey, dark grey, warm sand) for dust, debris and non-magical hits.
Every variant is the exact same 8 frames — identical shape, shading and timing, only the colour moves — so you can key them to elements, factions or spell tiers, or swap the sheet at runtime, without the effects ever looking like different assets.

What's Inside
- ✅ 54 animation clips · 823 hand-drawn frames — Bard 29 (idle 5-way · walk 4-dir · attack 4-dir + no-windup · hit 4-dir · die ×2 · sing ×4 · win ×2 · evolve ×3) · Rock Bard 14 (idle 6-way · walk 4-dir · sing ×2 · sing_fx ×2) · FX 11 (explosion variants)
- ✅ TWO timing versions —
smooth/(every frame, 75 ms) andclassic/(half the frames at 150 ms, same total length). Same art, same layout — pick what your project prefers. - ✅ PNG single frames + horizontal atlases, each with POT-padded copies (
single_pot/,atlas_pot/). Frames are split per character (single/bard/,single/rockbard/,single/fx/); sheets are named<character>_<clip>.png. - ✅ GIF previews (1× and 5×) for every clip in both timing folders — 216 GIFs total
- ✅ One ground line across three canvases — 64×64 body, 128×96 side attacks, 128×128 front/back attacks, deaths, evolve and the Rock Bard's sing loops. The feet land on the same row in all of them, so a single bottom-center pivot covers both characters and nothing jumps when you switch.
✏️ Aseprite Source Edition
Want to edit the art itself? The Aseprite Source Edition adds the original, editable .aseprite file for all 54 clips — both characters and every effect variant, the 90-frame evolve included — on top of the full PNG/GIF set. Recolor either form, re-time a clip, or export your own sheets.
Great For
Top-down & 2D RPGs · roguelikes · dungeon crawlers · class-change and awakening systems · rhythm and bard-class builds · game jams · prototypes.
